Man Plans, God Laughs

Penas Progress

As architects have told me a course should have signature holes. We are fortunate in we have many holes that people never forget. The 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th are such holes. The 4th and 9th require skillful shots over lochs (filled with wild life including royal swans), burns and heather. Other memorable holes have tees back in the magnificent trees that require accuracy not normally seen even on the finest of courses.

There are a lot of great stories about the mental side of playing Guthrie Castle. One of my favourites is a 5 handicapper (formerly a 1)  playing with a PGA Pro standing at the 9th tee, Lochs Lament : his knees became weak, his eyes watered up and he had to sit down. The first 8 holes had already taken its toll!

He felt overall stunned! He starred down from the elevated tee to the 175 yard all carry green over Guthrie Loch. The green is bordered by a burn on the right and trees on the left with the loch in front of the green. It is one of our Kodak holes, but not necessarily the best. It's merely one of the many terrific golf holes that makes Guthrie Castle Golf Course a surreal experience!

As Owner and Director of Golf, I invite you to  come join me for an experience you absolutely will never forget, but always enjoy!
